How To

10 tips for a healthy lifestyle

How to live a healthy life

We live in a fast-paced world that makes it difficult to get enough sleep, consume too much alcohol, smoke cigarettes, and eat too much. We don't properly care for our bodies.

If you are working full time, it can be difficult to keep a healthy diet and exercise regimen. If you feel stressed, it becomes more difficult. Your mind will tell you that this situation is too much so we end up feeling guilty and giving up.

If you feel like something is wrong with your body, then it probably is. Ask your doctor for his/her opinion about your current situation. If there are no signs of something abnormal, stress from your job could be the cause.

Some people believe that their job allows them to exercise regularly, or that they have friends who support them in staying fit. They are fortunate. Those people don't have any problems. They had everything under control. I wish all people could do the same. Unfortunately, most of us don't know how to balance our work life and personal life. Many people fall prey to bad habits, which can eventually lead them to developing diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Here are some tips to help improve your lifestyle.

  1. Get 7 hours of sleep minimum and 8 hours maximum each night. This includes proper sleeping positions and avoiding caffeine during the last hour before going to bed. Caffeine blocks the melatonin hormones making it hard to fall asleep. Also, make sure that your bedroom is clean and dark. Blackout curtains are a must, especially if you work late at nights.
  2. Eat well - Have breakfast every morning. Avoid sugary products, fried food and white breads. Include fruits, vegetables, and whole grain for lunch. Afternoon snacks are recommended to be rich in protein and fiber, such as nuts, seeds, beans, fish and dairy products. Avoid unhealthy snacks like chips, candies, cookies, cakes and sodas.
  3. Drink lots of water. We don't have enough. Water is good for us. It helps us lose more calories, keeps the skin soft and youthful, improves digestion, and flushes out toxins. Six glasses of water per day will help you lose weight quicker. You can determine how hydrated you are by examining the color of your urine. Yellow means dehydrated; orange means slightly dehydrated; pink means normal; red means overhydrated; and clear means highly-overhydrated.
  4. Exercise - Regular activity can help increase energy and decrease depression. Walking is a good way to get fit and improve your mood. Even though it may look easy, walking requires focus and concentration. Walking requires your brain to be focused on the task at hand, and you need to breathe slowly and deeply. For between 100 and 150 calories, a 30 minute walk can be enough to burn about 100 to 150 calories. Start slowly and increase your pace gradually. To avoid injuries, stretch after exercising.
  5. Positive thinking is vital for mental health. Positive thinking makes it easier to create a happy space within yourself. Negative thinking can cause anxiety and drain your energy. Keep your motivation high by focusing on the things you want to do. If you feel overwhelmed by all these new tasks, break down each task into small steps. Remember that you are bound to fail sometimes but just pick yourself up and start again.
  6. Learn to say no - We often get so busy that we do not even realize how much time we waste doing unimportant things. It is important for you to know when to say "No" and how to do it. Saying 'no' does not mean being rude. You are simply saying "no" to something. You can always find other ways to complete the job later. Set boundaries. Ask for help. This work can be delegated to someone else.
  7. Take care your body. Keep track of what you eat. You can boost your metabolism by eating healthier foods. Don't eat too much oily or heavy foods as they can increase cholesterol levels. A good tip is to have three meals and two snacks daily. Around 2000 to 2500 calories should be consumed each day.
  8. Meditation is an excellent stress reliever. Relax your mind by sitting still with your eyes closed. This exercise will improve your ability to think clearly and help you make decisions. Regular meditation practice will make you happier and calmer.
  9. Don't skip breakfast - Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast may lead to overeating during lunchtime. It is never too late to eat a balanced breakfast as long as you eat within 1 hour of waking. A healthy breakfast can boost your energy levels and help you control your hunger.
  10. Healthy food is the best. Food can have a profound effect on our moods. Avoid junk food and any food products that contain artificial ingredients or preservatives. These products make your body acidic and will cause you to crave them. Vegetables and fruits are high in vitamins and minerals, which can lead to better overall health.
